Holiday Update

Well, I decided to take over Dustin’s web site so I can keep everyone posted with the everyday happenings of the Fluke/Dorsett clan! Those who know me know I despise the Christmas letters, so this works out much better.

We started 2005 with a bang with the birth of Kadyn Denise Fluke. We continued to celebrate by having a birthday bash for Dustin. Later this year, my brother Matt and his wife had their little girl, Reese Louise in April.

In June of this year, my mom went in for surgery and while recovering had a stroke. The first four days were a nightmare. She was in St. Francis ICU becoming worse and worse by the day. With much prayer and encouragement we transferred mom to KU Medical Center in Kansas City where she spent weeks.

As time went one, she slowly came back to us. After a month at KU, she was transferred back to Topeka to Select hospital and then 4th floor for rehab.

We celebrated her 50th birthday in the hospital. We had close friends and family join us for steak and cake. When September 18th rolled around (Laura and Matt’’s b-day) we were able to get a day pass and take my mom to Olive Garden and then shopping.
She was discharged from St. Francis on October 5th and came to our place to live.

The girls are doing great. Gaby started preschool this year at Creative Learning at the Lake. She has made many friends and recently had her first Christmas performance. She is still sassy and sweet. Gaby is a huge help when it comes to taking care of her Grammy.

Kadyn is doing big things as well. She is now 11 months old and crawling, starting pull up, and of course babbles. She is still so little, weighing around 16 pounds but that hasn’t stopped her yet. When she smiles her whole face lights up.

Dustin and I are doing good. Dustin received his promotion at Washburn and now has a fancy title, Online Education Coordinator. He loves his job and continues to do online education for his degree. I on the other hand work as a Family Support Specialist with Kansas Children Service League. I do home visits, case management, and parent education. I still sell Creative Memories part time and stamp cards for everyone.

I think the biggest news thus far is that Dustin and I are buying a house. We are getting all the final paperwork in order and hope to close by the 27th. It is located past the lake and in a great neighborhood. Gaby and Kadyn will have better schools to attend and a huge backyard to play in.

Well, I can certainly say, I am ready for the New Year. I hope it brings healthy days, lot of laughs, and wonderful memories. Please keep checking Dustin’s site for more postings. I hope to get holiday pictures and Gaby’s 4 year pictures up soon.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

    Laura,
Congrats on the new baby, although she is almost 1. Tell Ms. Betsey at Gaby’s school hello. She is a dear friend of ours. In fact, her son and Kylie have been friends since kindergarten.
I am so glad to hear your mom is doing better. I went to see her at KUMed in the ICU. That was tough, but you all never gave up hope and it worked.
What neighborhood by the lake are you in? We are in Walnut View and the kids attend Tecumseh South and SH Middle School. It was the best move we could have made, educational and opportunity wise. The kids are thriving and we even got a dog for Christmas. Hard to believe we will be here 2 years in May.
Please know that we have thought of you often and Nanny says she has kept you all in her prayers.
