Bet Fest

Yesterday I became an official staff member/writer for Bet Fest It’s a fairly new poker site dedicated to everything about poker. The slogan – “Poker is our Sport”

There are some articles for beginners, the World Series of Poker, and even an amusing bit about how to beat women in poker.

I plan to write an article based on my experience tonight. A few of us are going up to the local Harrahs Indian casino to play in the $40 no limit hold ‘em tournament. Kevin is celebrating his birthday there.

long time – no updates

Well, for those who may be regulars at dustinfluke.com I apologize for the delay in posting new information.

Wait, nevermind. I don’t have regulars :)

At any rate, for anyone who does check out this site you may have noticed that I’ve been away for awhile. I had some difficulty getting Moveable Type working on my hosting providers new server. Now I think I have all those bugs out.

Be prepared for some changes. I’ve been taking a course in Perl, which is also partly why I haven’t been doing much HTML work lately. My final project is to add five perl related features to a web site. I’ve chosen dustinfluke.com for that project. I’d like to add a random quote, form, and some other things I can’t remember right now. So, stay tuned! I’ll have some updates really soon.

Busy

Work + Beginning of semester + New versions of software + procrasitinating faculty + early adopter + school/homework + new online course + car problems = SUPER, FREAKIN’ busy.

Have I mentioned lately that I’m really busy? At work things are really heating up with the first day of classes ’round the corner. On top of that, we just got back from vacation and are still trying to recoup. We went to St. Louis, primarily to see The Wiggles (kids show). I was behind when I left, and am behind now. Top that off with a heater core that [still] needs replaced, and a new online course that is 75% more demanding than previous courses and i have a molitof cocktail! I’m so busy, I can’t even spell check molitof!

On the plus side I’ve decided I’m dedicated to finishing desinging with web standards and am reading a little bit every night.

SO BUSY! Be prepared for some lag time in dustinfluke.com

photo organization

A while back, I was looking for some software similar to Apple’s iPhoto. I really liked iPhoto, especailly after seeing Croft demo it for me on his mac. I searched for a PC alternative and found Picasa. The software was okay, but lacked some of the nice features and only had a thirty day demo or some other restiction. For whatever reason, I ditched it. I’ve been using ACD Systems ACDSee software for some time. It’s okay. The other day, Slashdot had a note that Google aquired Picasa. So, I downloaded their free software and wa-la! In seconds I have inventoried photos. I have a lot of work to do for organization on my part, but that will come in time. If you don’t have a copy of this software, get it! It’s well worth your time.

Now I can get going on those WebCT Conference Photos I’ve been promising.

poker tournament

Tonight I played in my second “official” poker tournament. I’ve been to our local Harrahs casino to play a $10 buy-in, but tonight I registered with Paradise Poker and entered into their free tournament for a chance to play in another tournament to go to Paris and play in a WPT event. In the end, I had to go all-in on the blind. They were at 300/600 and someone raised the pot. I had Ace Deuce. What the hell. I played it and lost to a pair of fours. The board paired nines. Overall rank was 638/3464. Not bad I guess. It looks like I’ll just have to stick to the KPC events more often.

In non related news, I just got my first Movable Type comment spam on this site. I’ve already deleted it, so sorry for anyone wondering about penis enlargement. In the next few days I’m going to see about fixing this problem.

Catching Up

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted, so I thought I’d take a moment and catch up.

  • Fancy Bullets: Pretty soon, I’d like to implement some fancy bullets for my unordered CSS lists. I haven’t decided on one yet. I’d also like to get the contact page looking normal.
  • Funny: I was amused at Jeff Croft’s entry regarding the Gillette M3 Power razor.
  • Feature: I was happy to see that my desktop was posted on K10K. I was unsure as to whether or not I would get posted. I’m not too certain of the rules. At any rate, I’m glad to have some web presence.
  • Reading: I’m looking forward to reading budgetdesign. I don’t know how soon I’ll get to it, but I’d like to read it.
